Mono-print

Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has images or lines that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals.

Subtractive Eraser Drawing

For this drawing I used the subtractive eraser technique which is essentially just erasing away charcoal from a completely activated surface to create a composition, rather than adding charcoal to the paper to create the drawing.

Wearable Book

This is actually a collection of wearable books. The top image is each of the books closed and the bottom image is of them opened. The concept behind the piece is about wearing things that are dear to you close to the heart and on the body.

Holi

This is one of my newly finished accordion books entitled Holi: Festival of Colors. The title and subject matter of the book comes from a holiday that is celebrated by Hindus in which the people congregate in the streets and consequently throw loose pigment in each others faces. The holiday itself is of interest to me because I love to study other cultures and learn how people around the world live.  The book contains hand carved block prints from images of people celebrating Holi that were then printed on tea stained paper. The images capture a certain humanity of the people and push the viewer to relate themselves to a different culture.

Back to my Roots

I recently decided to get back to my roots and start print making again. I'm going to start making my blocks again and selling some of my work. Even thinking about starting my own business! Very entrepreneurial of me
Enjoy!

Cropped Composition Paintings

All of my students really loved this lesson. They were able to pick a painting from a famous artist and then do some research on the artist in the library. They then cropped a portion of the painting and then replicated what they saw on a much larger scale. This lesson was to get the students familiar with color mixing, art history, the painting process, using a grid, cropping, learning about composition, and becoming more familiar with the process of painting.

Fancy Falling Leaves!

Students loved this lesson because when we were done they got to hang their artwork from the ceiling in the halls! They really brightened up the halls!
